Description
Pioneer SX 1250 receiver. Classic Vintage. Fully revitalized.
In 1937 Nozomu Matsumoto created the first magnetoelectric speaker in Japan, and a year later, in Tokyo, he registered the company under the name Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho. In 1961, the company’s name was changed to Pioneer Electronic Corporation. However, the breakthrough came in 1962, when the company entered the Tokyo Stock Exchange and created the world’s first stereo system with speakers in separate housings. Four years later, Pioneer opened branches in the USA and in Europe. In 1978, the company created one of the best-known and most powerful receivers in its history SX-1980. Pioneer can also be proud of great successes in the world of auto-moto, as it introduced in 1975 the world’s first automotive stereo subassembly, then in 1984 a CD player and GPS navigation in 1990. The company also played a major role in the development of DVDs, plasma TVs and technologies Organic LED display (OLED). The company is currently part of Pioneer & Onkyo Corporation.
The receivers marked with the SX symbol are Pioneer’s flagship products from the 70s. They are characterized by a beautiful, warm and rich sound, as well as extremely solid finish. Still, it is the SX-X50 series receivers that boast the highest quality among Pioneer’s models of that era.
The SX-1250 is Pioneer’s flagship amplifier from the late 70s, designed as an uncompromising response to the growing demands of the hi-fi market. It was regarded as the ultimate home audio achievement – a device of immense power, exceptional precision, and outstanding quality of craftsmanship. Besides its impressive technical specifications, the SX-1250 features an easy-to-use, elegant front panel and a solid, classic design. To this day, it is considered one of the greatest achievements of the so-called “golden era of audio.”
This amplifier is distinguished by its enormous power reserve – offering 160 W RMS per channel at 8 ohms (THD < 0.1%). Its massive core transformer and dual power supply system with 22,000 uF capacitors per channel guarantee extremely stable operation at any volume level. The amplifier, based on direct coupling (DC coupled) without capacitors between stages, delivers better frequency response and a more natural sound with clearly defined, deep bass. The Pioneer SX-1250 is renowned for its spacious, “detailed” sound that combines analog warmth with high dynamics.
The enclosure has been fully revitalized and is made from rosewood. The wood finish is Chinese oil produced from natural oils and natural turpentine-based beeswax. The metal elements of the casing have been cleaned and painted using the automotive wet painting technique. The device has been fully reviewed and serviced and fitted with new aluminum feet.
