Description
Columbia HiFi receiver. Kuba-Imperial. Classic Vintage. Fully revitalised.
Born in Wrocław (1909), Gerhard Kubetschek established in Germany in 1948 a company manufacturing furniture for radio and TV appliances, which only one year later managed to achieve a turnover of a million German marks. At the beginning, Kuba produced only cases, cabinets and consoles for renowned audio companies such as Graetz, Loewe Opta, Nordmende, SABA, Philips and Telefunken. In 1958, after taking over Continental-Rundfunk GmbH, the company changed its name to Imperial Rundfunk-und Fernsehwerk, and having acquired the necessary knowledge, started to produce its own radio and TV appliances. Then, in 1966 it was sold to GE for 80 million marks, and two years later rebranded to Kuba-Imperial GmbH. The company was closed in the first half of the 70s. Today, the building at Lindener Str. 15 in Wolfenbüttel (where Kuba?s offices were once located) houses the KuBa Halle cultural centre.
The Kuba Columbia receiver is one of the company’s most famous models produced in 1969-73. Beautiful, soft, analogue sound and extraordinary design are undoubtedly the advantage of this device.
The enclosure has been completely revitalized. The wood finish is Chinese oils produced from natural oils. The wood is extremely pleasant to the touch.
