Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge.

In 1937 Nozomu Matsumoto created the first magnetoelectric speaker in Japan, and a year later, he registered in Tokyo the company with the name Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho. In 1961, the company’s name was changed to Pioneer Electronic Corporation. However, the breakthrough came in 1962, when the company entered the Tokyo Stock Exchange and created the world’s first stereo system with speakers in separate housings. Four years later, Pioneer opened branches in the USA and in Europe.

In 1978, the company created one of the best-known and most powerful receivers in its history SX-1980. Pioneer can also be proud of great successes in the world of auto-moto, as it introduced in 1975 the world’s first automotive stereo subassembly, then in 1984 a CD player and GPS navigation in 1990. The company also played a major role in the development of DVDs, plasma TVs and Organic LED display technologies (OLED). The company is currently a part of Pioneer & Onkyo Corporation.

The Pioneer PL 112D is a turntable with many comfort-enhancing features, such as a lightweight, rigid aluminum headshell, low-capacitance output cable, dust cover hinges enabling easy installation and removal, and a smooth arm lift mechanism that protects records and stylus.

The PL-112 D motor drives the platter not via a pulley system but via a Pioneer belt transmission, this way motor vibration is damped and the overall signal-to-noise ratio is improved.
The belt made of durable polyurethane is resistant to temperature changes and aging. The 4-pole synchronous motor has a very precise and stable speed and runs virtually without any vibrations.
Stability is also enhanced by a good quality arm made of zinc alloy and equipped with a counterweight.

In order for the stylus to be perfectly guided along the center of the groove, a special anti-skid solution has been used and the geometry of the arm has been refined, which results in precise channel separation when playing stereo recordings.

The device has been fully reviewed and serviced.

Technical data:

– Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge professionally calibrated with the turntable
– drive: belt-driven 4-pole synchronous motor
– S-shaped, distortion-free metal cylindrical arm with a very low weight
– the plate has been mechanically polished, which gave it a totally brand new look
– the cover has been re-polished and waxed, which gave it a totally brand new look
– new power cord and braided signal cables
– platter: 300 mm, made of aluminum alloy
– the enclosure is made of American valnut wood, wood finish is oil produced from natural Chinese oils, the colour of natural wood
– the top plate has been cleaned of old coatings and painted using the automotive wet painting technique
– high vibration damping factor
– adjustable speed of 33 or 45 rpm
– adjustable anti-skating system, cushioned arm lifting system
– solid, mechanically damped aluminum plate with a thick antistatic mat
– noise and flutter: 0.07% WRMS
– signal-to-noise ratio of 63 dB
– dimensions of the turntable: width 44 cm, depth 35 cm, height 18 cm
– weight about 8 kg
– year of production 1972-76
– made in Japan

2M Blue specifications:

– Output voltage at 1000 Hz, 5cm/sec. – 5.5 mV
– Channel balance at 1 kHz – 1.5 dB
– Channel separation at 1 kHz – 25 dB
– Channel separation at 15 kHz – 15 dB
– Frequency range at – 3dB – 20-25.000 Hz
– Frequency response – 20-20.000 Hz + 2 / – 1 dB
– Tracking ability at 315Hz at recommended tracking force – 80 um
– Compliance, dynamic, lateral – 20 um/mN
– Stylus type – Nude Elliptical
– Stylus tip radius – r/R 8/18 um
– Tracking force range – 1.6-2.0 g (16-20 mN)
– Tracking force, recommended – 1.8 g (18 mN)
– Tracking angle – 20°
– Internal impedance, DC resistance – 1.3 kOhm
– Internal inductance – 700 mH
– Recommended load resistance – 47 kOhm
– Recommended load capacitance – 150-300 pF
– Cartridge colour, body/stylus – Black/Blue
– Cartridge weight – 7.2 g

Pioneer PL 112D turntable.
